He once loved deeply
He vaguely remembers its faintest echo
A warm trace of steam curling
In the fog of distant memory
Where an ancient all consuming flame
Once burned brightly
He loved a young woman
In the fever of spring
She had just begun blossoming
Yet she was already a Queen
Ruling over his mind & heart
Claiming what he offered freely as hers
He would give anything to touch her
Hold her soft flower in his arms
Kiss her moist lips until permitted
To dive deeper into her divine waters
She cared for him completely
Loved him like the King she could see
His pride of her swelled until bursting
So he brought her home to his family
Her mind sparked his imagination
Her beauty left him mesmerized
Her love fed him until satisfied
There was nothing he longed for
More than her bed each night
He had discovered love easily
Yet he was too young to know
How to keep hold of such heat
Their energy burned so brightly
That despite his longing he let go
He lost his light & in the darkness couldn’t find
The magic he thought would last for life
Instead of seeking his lost treasure
His youthful heart sought to replace her
He traveled the world
Sowing his royalty
In parched fields unworthy of his seed
Yet never planting with his fertile Queen
Many moons yielded to morning rays
Until his ebony locs sprouted silver grays
He returned home to settle down
Almost forgetting the perfect peace
He had once known
In the arms of his love from long ago
A secret place in his soul
Held court for her refusing to let go
A strange sense of emptiness
Wouldn’t allow him to fully rest
Whispering in dreams as he slept
That there is something missing he shouldn’t forget
A day came
When his once roaring fire
Had only left one spark of flame
He sent his smoke signal into the sky
It time traveled on the wings of a golden firefly
Across the ocean deep to meet
His Queen in bed slumbering
She woke from a heavy dream
To its little glow blinking for her to see
The almond eyes of her lover beckoning
Flashes of heat simmering
Just beneath his outward calm
Stirring long lost emotions
In the recesses of her soul
She answered his smoke signal with a call
Before she spoke life into his heart
Her lips parted to gently blow
Giving energy to his smoldering embers
Setting them aglow
Fanning in him a familiar flame
Until his eternal fire danced with fever
To the ancient rhythm of love once more.
