New poetry anthology, La Femme Nouvelle!

GianMarie was raised in the heartland. The poet recently relocated from the Bay Area of Northern California to begin a homesteading adventure on the beautiful Tennessee River.
The poet learned creative writing from her mother as a young child composing her first short stories in elementary school. Poetry and theater became her favorite artistic expressions as a teenager and continued as a passion into young adulthood.
Study and travel abroad helped the poet focus on capturing and telling stories through her writing. She quickly understood that women of the African Diaspora were greatly lacking a voice in the world conversation. GianMarie uses her voice, freedom and privileged access to represent the thoughts and ideas of the silent many. When not writing, she enjoys spending time with her family, gardening for food independence, traveling and working in higher education.
GianMarie credits a variety of influences in her writing including the poets and artists of the Harlem Renaissance, as well as powerful women of the movement including Maya Angelou, Nina Simone and Angela Davis.
The poet has composed and performed her poetry to jazz and hip hop. Music plays a large role in inspiring her creative process. Please visit the poet’s page: http://amazon.com/author/gianmarie
